ADVANCED REGIONAL ANESTHESIA 2007:
INVASIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES AND REGIONAL ANESTHESIA
HANDS-ON WORKSHOP
Target Audience
Anesthesiologists, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Residents and
Fellows.
Educational Objectives
The purpose of this program is to teach and review the anatomical basis, indications and techniques of
regional anesthesia. Each participant will practice specific techniques on live models and cadavers.
• Identify and review indications, anatomy, techniques and complications of regional anesthesia
in the head and neck, upper and lower extremities, trunk and abdomen.
• Identify and review indications, anatomy, techniques and complications involved in
sympathetic nervous system blocks.
• Learn to perform advanced pain management techniques such as intrathecal pump
implantation, spinal cord stimulation and facet joint rhizotomy for chronic pain management.
• Discuss and review recent advances in management of chronic malignant and non-malignant
pain.

School of Medicine in collaboration with the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA).
Location
Friday evening’s meeting will be held at The Courtyard Detroit Downtown in Detroit, Michigan. The
Saturday and Sunday programs will be held at the WSU School of Medicine’s Scott Hall, Detroit,
Michigan.
Housing facilities will be at The Courtyard Detroit Downtown, under the Wayne State University
School of Medicine 2007 group. Phone: (313) 222-7700.
Registration Fee
A $400 registration fee is required for practicing physicians, $200 for resident physicians (with a letter
from the Program Director), $300 for certified registered nurse anesthetists, $250 for registered nurses
and others. The conference registration fee includes all lectures, course materials, conference meals,
processing of CME credits and all workshops except the Ultrasound Guided Blocks Workshop, the
Upper Torso Simulator and the Cadaver / C-Arm workshop. There is an additional $50.00 registration
fee for the Ultrasound Guided Blocks Workshop, and for the Upper Torso Simulator. The Cadaver/C-
Arm Workshop fee is $10.00 (see Course Registration form). All registrations will be confirmed in
writing. Cancellations must be made in writing and received on or before April 13, 2007, for refund
(less $50 processing fee). No refunds after April 13, 2007.
Credit Statements
The Wayne State University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Wayne State University School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum
of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™. Physicans should only claim credit commensurate with the
extent of their participation in the activity.

You are invited to submit an abstract, take advantage of the opportunity to share your work with your
colleagues and practicing anesthesiologists and receive recognition for your efforts. Each entry must
be based on work completed during a residency or fellowship training program. Your abstract may
be submitted during or within one year following completion of training. Presentation within the
last 18 months does not preclude entry. All electronic (email) submissions must be sent using either

Saturday’s program begins with lectures held at WSU Scott Hall. The Anatomy
Dissection Laboratory will be the site for the workshops. WSU Scott Hall is located
about 2 miles north of the heart of downtown Detroit. The WSU medical school
campus is situated just south of Interstate 94 (the Ford Freeway) and is roughly bounded
by the Lodge Freeway (M10) on the west and Interstate 75 on the east. WSU Scott Hall
of Basic Medical Sciences is located at 540 East Canfield, with the main entrance on the
south side of the building.
Visitor parking is available. Registered attendees will receive maps of the locations with
their confirmations.
