it’s learning primary version
After the introduction of the it’s learning primary version there are two different types of courses:
normal courses and early learner courses. The normal courses are the courses as you know them
from previous versions of it’s learning, while the early learner courses are especially tailored for the
early learners and it’s learning Kids.
Early learner courses have less functionality compared to normal courses. In practise this means that
only folders, links, assignments, content from the library and content packages such SCORM can be
added in early learner courses.
In order to log on with the primary version you must have a specific profile in it’s learning. Common
profiles are system administrators, administrators, teachers and students, but now we introduce a
new profile called “Early learner”. See

Logging in to the primary version on page 4 for more information on how to log in with a early
learner profile.
The idea is that the teachers work in it’s learning while the learners work in the primary version.

Getting access – admin
In order to enable Kids on your site, a system administrator has to enable it in the Global settings.
Check the box in front of Early learner interface in order to turn it on for your site. This setting will
appear only if your site is a primary site. If you cannot see the Early learner interface checkbox your
site belongs to another education segment. If you still want to test the primary version, contact our
support at support@itslearning.com.
Check the box behind Early learner interface.
5
Logging in to the primary version
In order to directly log in to the primary version the user must be assigned with an early learner
profile. This profile appears in Administration Profiles once the primary version is activated on
your site by an administrator. The profile of a user can be changed in Administration User and
access rights. Search for the user and click the Edit icon:
In the Edit page, change the profile to Early learner under User information Select profile:
6
New navigation in courses
The primary version has a simpler navigation compared to the navigation tree you already know
from it’s learning. There is a list of courses on the main page and the content is listed in a plain list in
the course pages.

Adding early learner courses
Adding early learner courses is not much different than adding normal courses. In addition to the
Add course link, you now also have an Add an early learner course link.
When the Add an early learner course link is clicked, you see this overview:
There are two important features to note when you add courses. You are allowed to select an icon
for the course, and there is also a colour palette that allows you to select a colour theme. The colour
is used as a theme for menus and headings in the course.
Course icons
The icon you select is used in course lists and as a course header both in it’s learning and the it’s
learning primary version.

The icon you select is used to distinguish the early learner course from normal courses, and to
distinguish early learner courses from each other. Here you see that a pencil is used as an icon for
the course Writing.

Colour palette
The colour palette behind the Title field of the course is used to select the colour theme of the
course.

The colours you pick are used as a theme colour for the course. Below are some examples of the use
of theme colours:

Bulletins
In the primary version all bulletins are shown on the main page. If you have bulletins in several
courses, the newest bulletin is listed at the top.

Assignments
The assignments have a new layout for the users of the primary version, but it is unchanged for the
teachers that use the normal it’s learning version. Note that it is recommended that teachers add a
personal picture of themselves in My settings >> Change details. This is because the assignments are
presented in a speaking bubble with a picture of the teacher:

13
The assignments in the primary versions also have a draft function that allows the learners to
continue on the assignment later if they decide not to finish it right away. There are two options:
Continue later or Hand in.
Continue later and Hand in.
14
Converting courses
Normal courses can be converted to early learner courses and the other way around. Note that if
you change a normal course to an early learner course some features may not work. This is because
the early learner courses have less functionality than regular courses. Early learner courses do not
have, for example, discussions, and when you convert a normal course to an early learner course,
the discussion is not shown in the early learner course. However, if you change it back to a normal
course the discussion becomes visible again.
Content that cannot be viewed by the early learners in the primary version can be viewed by other
profiles in the course, for example students.
15
Personal pictures
In future versions we will support that the users upload a personal picture in the primary version.
However, as this feature is not developed yet, all users will see this picture:
