3RD ANNUAL KWAME KLASSIC AND FAMILY FIRST! HEALTH FAIR ON OCT. 2
Proceeds to benefit the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club
Chicago, IL (September 9, 2010). . . Illinois State Senator Kwame Raoul announces the 3rd Annual Kwame
Klassic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament and Family First! Health Fair for the benefit of the Hyde Park
Neighborhood Club on Saturday, October 2 from 9 AM – 2 PM. The exciting day of basketball
culminates in the winning team playing against Sen. Raoul and his “Dream Team,” consisting of
Governor Pat Quinn, Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education, and Alexi Giannoulias, Illinois State
Treasurer and Democratic nominee for US Senator.
The “Dream Team” will warm up against the third-place team at 1:30 PM, with the final game and prize
ceremony at about 2 PM. Admission to the final celebrity games is $5 (standing room only); admission to
the other games is free. Players, officials, and volunteers attend free of charge.
The top three tournament teams also win cash prizes. Each registered player receives a t-shirt and
goody bag. Teams must register in person at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (HPNC) and pay the
$150 fee by cash or credit card.
The Family First! Health Fair, open to the entire community, runs from 10 AM –3 PM. Sen. Raoul has
invited health care professionals to provide screening exams, healthy eating and weight loss advice, as
well as information about Medicaid, senior care, free health access for the uninsured, and college
savings.
According to Sen. Raoul, “This event is important to me because it brings together various members of
the community and allows them to receive free health care services and watch some great basketball.”
Raoul, who attended programs at the HPNC as a child, feels that the Club has served its community well
for the past 101 years as a play center and hub for afterschool programs for neighborhood children,
financial management classes for teens, and as a home to civic meetings and events. “I believe strongly
in the mission of HPNC and have experienced its positive effects firsthand,” he said.
For more information or to sign up as a health fair professional service provider, call HPNC at 773-643-
4062. Team registration forms available at www.hpnclub.org. HPNC is located at 5480 S. Kenwood
Avenue (northwest corner of 55th and Kenwood) in Hyde Park.
The Champion sponsor for both events is the University of Chicago Medical Center.
