FROM THE OFFICE OF THE WALTER SISULU UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATOR
COMING TO REGISTER AT WSU?
LET US HELP YOU
Walter Sisulu University warmly welcomes all first year and returning students. Congratulations on the academic
progress you have made thus far.
The Office of the Administrator has made certain key decisions regarding the registration processes for the 2012
academic year.
DO YOU HAVE OUTSTANDING DEBT AT WSU?
NO owing student will be prevented from registering on the basis of debt.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE MINIMUM INITIAL PAYMENTS ARE?
All students must pay the minimum initial payment.
We have kept these payments similar to the 2011 amounts to assist your registration:
* Non-residence students pay R 3,677.50 made up of: R 3,000 minimum initial tuition fee, R210 registration
fee, R200 SRC fee, R70 Sport fee, R70 Copyright fee and R127.50 student insurance.
* Residence students pay R 5,357.50 made up of: R3,000 minimum initial tuition fee, R210 registration fee,
R200 SRC fee, R70 Sport fee, R70 Copyright fee, R1,320 minimum residence initial payment, R360 indemnity

ARE YOU A RETURNING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT?
Readmission of students to undergraduate programmes:
If you are affected by the implementation of Rule G7 and related academic rules which are applied consistently
across all faculties, YOU DO HAVE A RIGHT OF APPEAL. Submit your appeal in writing with supporting
documentation to the Office of the Executive Dean of your Faculty. (Refer to rules G7 and G11 in the General
Prospectus)
DO YOU WANT TO STAY IN RESIDENCE?
Residence rooms are pre-allocated based upon an academic merit system across all campuses in all residences.
WSU, whilst exceeding the national norms for university accommodation for students, cannot accommodate all
its students; however additional residence projects are underway.
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE 2012 FEE INCREASE?
For tuition fees, a benchmarking exercise was undertaken with similar universities based on the 2011 charges. An
average increase was arrived at per subject. Your WSU fees are the still the lowest of any other similar university.
The application and registration fees only increased by 5% and the residence fees at WSU are well below the
market average of R17,000 per annum.
DO YOU WANT TO APPLY FOR A NSFAS LOAN?
There are NSFAS offices on all campuses. All returning students MUST FIRST APPLY for their NSFAS loan BEFORE
commencing the registration process. WSU expects additional NSFAS funding in 2012 to assist more students.
DO YOU KNOW ANY FORMER STUDENTS...
Who have passed all their subjects but have been unable to graduate because they owe WSU fees? Please ask them
to contact the NSFAS offices URGENTLY for assistance on these numbers:
